The NYSALJA Web Site became operational at nysalja.org and nysalja.com on August 1, 2002. It was was originally designed by Justina R. Cintrón, Esq. Since 2002, Internet web design tools have come a long way. For some time we’ve been thinking about an overhaul. As fate would have it, we’ve been down for the last couple of months due to technical difficulties. So, we decided to take advantage of the “down time.”

NYSALJA.ORG is finally back with a new look. And thanks to the geniuses at WordPress, we have some powerful tools that should make it easier for us to provide you with up-to-date info, interactive news posts, and better graphics. In the near future we’ll probably be posting videos and, who knows, maybe even offering an MCLE course or two!

Let us know what you think. We welcome your suggestions for improvements or additions. Feel free to contact any Executive Committee Member with your ideas.

Please don’t forget to visit us often. We’re here for you!

Proposed Annual Dues Increase

The NYSALJA Executive Committee has proposed increasing the Annual Dues from $45.00 to $50.00. This modest increase will benefit the Association in two ways:

  1. It will place the NYS Affiliate on more stable financial footing.
  2. It will bring the New York State Affiliate into line with the National Association’s membership fee (which is $50.00), which will streamline our bookkeeping responsibilities, currently performed by our (volunteer) Treasurer.

If approved, this dues increase will become effective at the beginning of the new fiscal year, July 1, 2010.

NYSALJA Bylaws require a majority vote of the active membership to change the Annual Membership Fee.

Model Code of Conduct for State ALJs Adopted by NYSBA

March 22, 2010 by · Comments Off

Dear Colleagues:

The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) has adopted the attached Model Code of Conduct for State Administrative Law Judges (Code)*.

The Code’s drafters meant this as a resource and guidance document for State ALJs in dealing with ethical questions in the absence of any officially adopted ethics code for ALJs at the state level in NY. The drafters also wished to assure the independence of State ALJs in the hearing process. The New York Code for Judicial Conduct served as the major source for the provisions in the Code, although the drafters also consulted Executive Order 131 and the NAALJ Code for state ALJs.

With the Code’s adoption by NYSBA, the Executive Committee now presents the Code to the NYSALJA membership for your review and decision on whether NYSALJA should adopt or endorse the Code.

The Executive Committee makes no recommendation on this matter because many of the members of the Executive Committee were active participants in drafting the Code. We leave the matter to the NYSALJA Membership for your questions, preferences and guidance.

The Model Code is available online and can be viewed as a PDF file by clicking here.
